As Democrats prepare to launch a full frontal assault on the Tea Party movement, it seems appropriate to go on the record with a few thoughts.
Public opinion of the Tea Party movement is mixed, but growing steadily more favorable. Media depiction is, by and large, intensely derogatory, degrading and delirious. Those we oppose have called us every name in the book, even making up a few new ones especially in our honor.
A recent poll of Tea Partiers gives some insight. The heart of the movement is our belief in the United States Constitution, and the grand, unique experiment in liberty which it facilitated. The primary concerns of our members lie in the arenas of finance and defense. I always think of the goal as being "to put government back in its box." In my head, government is like a giant, living ooze that was once a child's toy, like Silly Putty, but has mutated into a suffocating, ever-expanding force for evil. I want to shrink it by about 80%, put it back in its box. Note that I do not specify a level of government - they are all much too bloated and oppressive. The poll painted us as a leaderless group, implying that we might be drifting without purpose or course. We are leaderless, in the traditional sense of the word, but we are certainly not without leaders.
Who are the Tea Partiers? We are the best that America has to offer, in many ways.
We are strong, self-reliant people who work hard, spend responsibly and help those less fortunate than ourselves because it feels good and is the right, moral thing to do.
We are all leaders - or nearly all of us. Each of us is involved in this fight because we believe it is our solemn duty as citizens, as "We The People," to speak out, loudly, when the supreme law of our land is being used to line the bottom of the birdcage.
We are passionate about our country and its rare and precious freedoms, we believe in our fellow Americans. We believe that, left to their own devices, with no safety net, most men would rise to the challenge and make decent lives for themselves. We wish there had never been such things as Income Taxes, Social Security and Medicare. We certainly don't want government healthcare! We believe in the goodness of Americans, and the ability of private churches, charities and other organizations to take care of the less fortunate infinitely more efficiently than government.
Though the majority of our members are Christian, and virtually all strongly support Christian values and morals, those issues are not leading our fight. This seems to have caused some confusion. It shouldn't - it's really quite simple and logical. If we do not rein in the growth of government and government spending, there will be no country left. The ooze will suffocate all who produce. What good will it do to battle abortion if we are leaving the child we save with a future of indentured servitude to pay for our generation's fiscal irresponsibility? We believe in the power of a free America, and we know the contagious nature of success. We know that by bringing our nation closer to her founding principles, we will be improving her morality as a natural consequence.
This is the epic battle of our lifetimes. We aren't playing games, we won't "get bored" and go home. Losing is simply not an option. It is cold, hard, statistical fact that the growth of government in the last two years - even the last ten years - has been exponential in both size and spending. It is impossible - not merely difficult or uncomfortable - impossible to continue this behavior indefinitely. What do you think will ultimately happen to the debt our government is incurring? Have you thought about it? This government continues to borrow ever more every year, and they never pay a penny of the principle. The debt never shrinks. Borrow more, pay this year's interest...hmm, the interest is a lot higher this year than it was last...
We do not see this as a partisan problem - both parties have been guilty of budgetary abuse. We are sick and tired of politicians who buy votes with our money. We have a fair understanding of the Constitution, at least enough to know that the founders never intended any branch or level of government to serve as a cradle-to-grave nanny, standing ready to kiss our boo-boos when we fall down.
We believe in personal responsibility and self-determination. We ask only the freedom to make our own choices and follow our chosen course with as little bureaucratic involvement as possible, and we pledge to accept whatever consequences our choices bring, for better or worse. We do not believe that we, through the simple fact of our existence, are entitled to any worldly goods purchased by the production of others. We believe ourselves adequate to such tasks as deciding, based on our personal health and circumstances, whether to purchase health insurance or take a chance and pay our doctors out of pocket, as needed. We resent deeply any implication that we aren't smart enough to understand the wisdom of the political class, or appreciate their grand designs. We understand, quite clearly, and we reject, quite completely.
We reject the government's vision of this country as composed of feckless incompetents incapable of self-sustenance.
Ours is the ultimate "big tent party." Our platform is the Constitution, our only requirement is love of liberty.
We do not have leaders because we do not need to be led. We are each on our own personal crusade to save the nation we love. We all have different pet causes and passions - this tends to happen among strong, fiercely independent thinkers - but we are all working toward the grand goal of restoring America to her former glory as the land where all things are possible because free men are encouraged to grow wealth through hard work and ingenuity.
This video illustrates the point beautifully. We are "We The People."

Why's He Doing It?
I keep getting emails from patriotic conservative groups warning that we must kill the Health Care bill now. What's the rush? Didn't Mitch McConnell just warn that, if Obamacare passes, every Republican candidate will campaign on repealing the monster?
And isn't almost everyone saying the Democrats are committing political suicide by pushing for passage? Doesn't that foretell a Republican landslide in November? Will that not assure a big push in Congress to reverse the legislation before it even becomes effective? The "R"s may even regain control of both sides of Congress - may even gain enough seats to override a Obama veto.
Do Reid, Pelosi and friends have a death wish? Is Obama wacky?
Am I the only one old enough to remember Jimmy Carter? Has everyone forgotten his soft, Southern drawl reminding us that we have no national energy policy, and proclaiming "That's ridiculous!" So, he gave us The Department Of Energy. We all said, "So what? We'll get rid of Jimmy and then we'll get rid of The D.O.E."
And, how about the Department of Education? I recall many voices promising to dump that department, also!
Well, we got rid of Jimmy. We've had eight years of Reagan; four of Bush 41 and eight of Bush 43. And we have had a host of Republican Congresses.
And.... we still have D.O.E.! We still have the Department of Education! We still have E.P.A.! We still have the I.R.S.! We still have a lot of Progressive crap we swore we'd get rid of.
The fact of the matter is, an ounce of prevention outweighs many tons of cure. The Progressives know well how this all works.
In case you are still not quite clear, Mark Steyn is much more lucid in his IBD explanation of Why's He Doing It? Check him out. Kill the bill now!

We Need A Man (or woman) Like This:
Imagine a young man meeting a young girl, falling in love and proposing marriage. The young woman accepted and they were engaged to be married.
Then, as they became better acquainted, it was immediately apparent that their personalities were so opposite, a compatible life together would be nearly impossible.
The young man broke off the engagement. But, he had given his word, and the thought that he was going back on his promise troubled him greatly. So greatly, in fact, that he was unable to do his work - a work about which he was extremely passionate. Finally, he came to realize he could not live his life knowing that he had broken his word. He reconciled with the young woman and they were married. As the years passed, the marriage was as troubled as he suspected it would be, but he endured that marriage as the preferred alternative to breaking his promise.
That is a true story, recently related by Lewis C. Lehrman, author and historian. The young man's name was Abraham Lincoln, the young woman was Mary Todd.
The concept of treasuring one's "word" was not uncommon in Lincoln's day. During his presidency, on May 10, 1862, my grandfather was born. At age 31, his son, my father, was born on April 17, 1893. My father often said, "If a man doesn't have his word, what does he have?" It is just the way it was in the 19th century, and for a few decades beyond. If a man looked you in the eye, shook your hand and made a promise, you could put it in the bank. Literally! Many significant business transactions were sealed in just that way, with a handshake. Either party would rather die than break their word.
Is there such a man or woman today who would lead our nation? We can hope.

Screaming at the TV
Lately, I find myself in awe of the seemingly total lack of awareness on the part of many TV pundits. So I sit and scream, "NO! NO! NO!", but no one hears. I threaten to write letters, but do not. And as they say, the beat goes on. Along with the screaming.
Following the elections in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts, I keep hearing that the country is "swinging to the right". Like the American people have suddenly adopted some strange new philosophy and are launching off into some strange new direction.
There was a time when Americans did abruptly swing to the right. But that was in the late 1700s when they had had quite enough of "times that try men's souls" and sought a better way. That better way was smaller government, lower taxes, greater personal freedom... ideas that have become known as "the Right".
True, there have been groups along the way who have supported those ideas, along with other cherished ideas, like certain fundamental religious beliefs. They trumpeted both ideas with equal volume, and some began to see the two as inseparable. They were not.
In what George Washington described as a miracle, the Americans of the 1700s drew up a basic law of the land - a constitution - which would trump all other laws. There was, not surprisingly, some initial confusion, and so they clarified their intentions by amending that constitution with phrases such as, "Congress shall make no law..." Talk about limited government! Congress shall make NO law abridging certain rights! NO law!
Got the picture? No? Okay, read this: If we herein do not specifically PERMIT the federal government certain rights, or herein DENY the people those rights, than those rights, and any others you can dream up, shall remain the rights of THE PEOPLE!
That is what defines "The Right" and it is where this country began and should remain.
But every few years, some attractive, articulate person comes along and tries to insert some new idea, one that, on the surface, perhaps, seems fairer to some group of Americans. The American people like to be fair, and they go along.
But always, and always, those ideas become expanded to extend more rights to the government and less to the people. Finally, the people say STOP. That is happening now.
That is not a swing to the right. It is like the old gospel song advised, it is "keeping your hand upon the throttle and your eye upon the road." It is holding the steady course on which America was founded.
We are not a "Center right" nation as some are so fond of saying... we are a RIGHT nation. We are not "swinging right". We are simply putting the brakes on attempts to swing to the left.

So Glad You Asked!
I've been meaning to post these since Sunday. We attended Boot Camp with Apostle Claver Saturday, and became indoctrinated in the Raging Elephants Way! I don't think I've posted much here about Raging Elephants...I'll check and, if needed, remedy that soon.
Anyway, these videos are all playlists. The first is introductory stuff from some of our local patriots. They are wonderful people with varying amounts of public speaking ability, from cute to deeply inspirational (read "Angelo Mino"). There are five clips, total about 40 minutes.
The second is the reason we must do this. Eight clips, about an hour and fifteen minutes.
The third is what we're gonna do about it. Ten clips...about an hour and a half.
I strongly recommend them. The video quality is only fair...they kept the lights off much of the time so the presentation was more visible. But I was near the speakers and the audio is good. It was an inspirational day. The plan is good, the strategy simple.
UPDATE: I have been asked not to make the third playlist, the training segment, publicly available. If you would like to view it, let me know and I can send you a private link.
Would love to hear your thoughts if you take the time to watch.

Define "racist"
The word does not have a listing in the first dictionary I grabbed from the shelf. Really! The word racism is listed, and racist is a sub-listing, showing only that it is used as both a noun and an adjective.
For racism, the dictionary says: 1. A belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
2. Racial prejudice or discrimination.
Yep! that's exactly how I see it. Doesn't even mention "fighting for civil rights". Doesn't even mention having a lot of black friends. Doesn't mention supporting the agenda of a black president.
Well, do any of those things make you NOT a racist? Did the fact that Timothy McVeigh never killed anyone before his Oklahoma City bombing make him NOT a mass murderer?
No, the definition of racism is "a belief that -- racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race."
When Harry Reid said that Barack Obama was not too black and didn't sound black (though he could sound black if needed), Reid was clearly demonstrating that he considered Obama to be inferior, because of his race, but might be an acceptable candidate because he was sort of, well, "black lite".
Harry Reid is a blatant racist.
So is the guy who described Obama as a "clean, articulate Negro". His name was Joe Biden.
So is the guy who said "a few years ago, the guy (Obama) would have been fetching us coffee." His name was Bill Clinton.
White Democrats have hated and abused blacks for generations, because they believe they are inherently superior.
Why are so many black Americans still supporting them?

My idea of a fair critique:
The ignorance, the incompetence, the inconsistency, the total inability to govern, currently being displayed by the left, the progressives, the idiots among the Democrats currently running Congress and the Administration, baffle me.
To list all the things they are doing wrong would take a book which, happily, I am sure others are now writing. (Never mind that future clueless liberals will never read those books!)
I just listened to another of their spinners explain for the umteenth time why the Panty Bomber is going to be tried in civilian court. Hey! Richard Reid the shoe bomber, was tried in a civilian court as ordered by BUSH PEOPLE!
An hour, or a channel or a news program earlier, another spinner (defending Obama's insistence that Yemenis currently held at Gitmo be released back to Yemen) insisted that the Yemenis now accused of training, supporting and equipping the panty bomber were once imprisioned at Gitmo but were released from Gitmo by orders from the BUSH PEOPLE!
Suddenly, the actions taken by the Bush Administration are reason enough for repeating those same actions. This after eight years of telling us that everything George W. Bush ever did was wrong, wrong, wrong!
C'mon, you dummies! After telling us something was terribly wrong, shouldn't we expect you to be doing something differently?
No, not when you are ignorant, incompetent, inconsistent and totally devoid of ability. When all those things apply, you just stumble along in your ignorant, incompetent, inconsistent way and when it all goes wrong, you (in honest surprise) exclaim, "Hey, your guy did it first!"

Requiem and Rebirth
At last we say goodbye to 2009. Not a moment too soon.
For millions of us, this year has been overwhelming. We have seen things happen this year that we would never thought possible in the land we call home. If someone had told you two years ago that the United States federal government would, by now, have virtually nationalized the automotive, banking and insurance industries, you would have laughed in his face. Even Ayn Rand would have been hard pressed to invent scenarios to compete with the reality of 2009 in America. It has been a fierce onslaught of the unthinkable...each new heresy tumbling into the mix before the last has been fully absorbed. So many of us have spent the year reeling - bouncing from one disaster to the next, in full defensive mode, with little time, or energy, left for introspection. React, react, react! Must stop them! Don't bother me with details - just stop it, whatever it is! NOOO!!!
Now, as the rush and bustle of the holidays pass, we find ourselves at the dawn of a new year, a new decade, a new beginning. I have always believed the "next right thing" happens. Whether because of God, or fate, or luck, or the vibrations of the Universe, everything happens for a reason - though sometimes it's nearly impossible to imagine what that reason could possibly be, or how it could possibly be positive. Such is the situation in which we find ourselves tonight. What good could possibly come of the events of the past year?
For far too long, most of us have drifted through our days with little thought of the freedoms we, alone in the world, enjoy. We have been apathetic, more interested in movie stars than Constitutional rights. For decades, we have allowed the federal government to grow ever more bloated, infringing on ever more of our liberties, without so much as a whimper. Inch by inch, they were reeling us in, putting us under ever more bureaucratic control, and we paid little or no attention. We bore little resemblance to the great men and women of courage and character who built the framework of this great land. We were not worthy of the sacrifices so many have made on our behalf.
This year, all that began to change.
For the first time in my life, the people of this country are beginning to act, think and feel like true Americans. We have come out of our houses, into the streets, coming together as countrymen again, as part of something much larger than ourselves and our immediate families. We have begun to form networks, alliances, to plan for the future, to understand that we have a duty to take an active role in the preservation of our nation - a fact we had forgotten somewhere along the way. Faced with extreme adversity, strength is overcoming fear and Americans everywhere are standing up and speaking out. We know the battle will be long and hard, and that there is no turning back...the peaceful days of blissful ignorance are gone forever. It was our dereliction that brought us to this place, it will be our honor which will take us back. Like the founders, we fully understand that our liberties are worth any sacrifice and our cause is just.
Beware, Washington! Millions of sparks across this great land are beginning to merge and grow - soon the entire country will be engulfed in a wildfire the scope of which has never been seen. No more politics as usual. We will not be silenced, whether by bribery or intimidation, and we will not be worn down. We will do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to put the federal government back in its place. Pat Caddell said it beautifully: "I have a message for the people in Washington, in both parties. The American people are coming, and they're coming for you."
This is a moment in history that has long been needed. Take a deep breath, my wonderful, freedom loving, patriotic friends. There will be little time for rest on the road to Judgment Day this November.

Just Doodlin'
Hi folks, I haven't contributed to this blog in a while. Sorry about that.
April and I have been very active, (she more than me) attending various functions having to do with the Tea Party Movement. But my favorite was when we drove to Lawrence, KS for a forum at the West campus. It was more of the same but with our probable candidate doing better than she had in previous forums. I was impressed when we walked through the door and our daughter introduced us to the president of the young Republicans Club. She introduced us and was obvioulsly at ease in this environment. She never ceases to amaze me. I am delighted to be amazed by our amazing daughter, Mackenzie. I'm quite sure I will continue to be amazed for the rest of my life. jc
April and I have been very active, (she more than me) attending various functions having to do with the Tea Party Movement. But my favorite was when we drove to Lawrence, KS for a forum at the West campus. It was more of the same but with our probable candidate doing better than she had in previous forums. Our one solution.
As we daily watch idiocy overflow from the halls of government, I am often inclined to think... "That's it... that is the straw that will break the camel's back!" Surely this latest foolishness will make people open their eyes and realize things are going all wrong.
Alas. What a mistake. I read letters to the editor of our local newspaper and see that ordinary, common folk, my neighbors, are in full support of what the government is doing. I watch panel discussions on TV, wherein one "strategist" argues against five level-headed people. The majority quote truths from past experience. The strategist insists they are not seeing the "whole picture".
I think of these people as "theorists", adhering to some theory they have learned and refuse to deny. They will never be persuaded by historical fact.
And so we have a great global dichotomy: China, a Communist nation, thriving because they are letting their people practice capitalism in a grand way. And the United States, a Capitalist country, struggling to subsist on the largess of China, because we are forcing our population into Communist ideology.
During World War II, General Douglas MacArthur faced an adversary beyond persuasion. He knew there was only one solution. He called it "Unconditional Surrender". That, he knew, could come in only one way: complete, absolute defeat of his enemy.
That is our only solution today. The people now driving our nation off the cliff will never be persuaded. They must be defeated, they must be denied the power to govern.
