Catching up

Haven't been around much for the last few days, and have missed complaining about a lot of news. Given the pace at which this administration is ramming socialism/fascism down our throats, missing a day of news can be significant.

Since I can't possibly cover five days worth of happenings, I'm going to focus on the few bits of positives news that have emerged.

The Clintons symbolically lost another election on Tuesday when Terry McAuliffe was soundly beaten in the Virginia Democratic gubernatorial primary by a conservative Democrat, state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds. This is good news in a number of ways. The most conservative Democrat won the primary, an indicator that the electorate has had enough of far-left politics - Obama's popularity should shows signs of flagging soon. And, a recent Survey USA poll shows the Republican candidate, Bob McDonnell, leading Deeds, 47% to 43%. Come on, Virginia...usher in the coming tide of red!

Perhaps even more significantly, New Jersey is developing a definite reddish tinge. Quinnipiac's latest poll in that state's gubernatorial race shows Chris Christie, the Republican, leading incumbent Jon Corzine by 10 points.

On more generic issues polls, the GOP is gaining ground as well. Rasmussen does a monthly survey to query voters on which party they trust more to handle various issues. In their June poll, Republicans have taken the lead on six of ten issues, including, for the first time in two years, the economy. On health care, social security and education the Dems still have a lead; the two parties are tied on abortion, and the Republicans lead in the areas of economy, taxes, Iraq, Social Security, government ethics and immigration. To put this in perspective, Democrats led in all areas just before the last election. This is a significant swing.

There's good news in other opinion polls, as well. Eighty-three percent of voters rate the U.S. Constitution as good or excellent, but 44% of them believe that it does not put enough restrictions on government (compared to only10% who say it's too restrictive).

Michele Bachmann is fast becoming one of my favorite people. She's been fighting ACORN to the best of her ability (given their staunch defender and powerful advocate, Barney Frank), and now is becoming increasingly outspoken against Obama's reckless socialization, saying this on the floor of the House last night (video of this and more at the link):
Now we've moved into the realm of gangster government. We have gangster government when the Federal Government has set up a new cartel and private businesses now have to go begging with their hand out to their local--hopefully well politically connected--Congressman or their Senator so they can buy a peace offering for that local business. Is that the kind of country we are going to have in the future?

We need to call this for what this is, my colleagues. We need to call this for what this is. Call it out. The American people need to get outraged and figure out that it could be them next. No business is safe when you see the administration appoint czars--car czars, wage czars--there's over 20 czars that have been appointed. And what do those czars do? They bypass the Congress. We are the people's elected representatives; we have been bypassed. We now have an imperial presidency where the President has appointed various czars reporting directly to him.
Can't tell you how thrilled I am to have such a brilliant example of my gender in the House of Representatives.

These are all early predictors, but they're showing definite signs of becoming trends. We face our toughest and most important battle yet, against socialized medicine, in the coming months. We have to keep winning hearts and minds. There is a march on D.C. planned for September 12th. John and I will be there...you should be, too!!! Click here for more info.
