Bebe is not messing around

Benjamin "Bebe" Netanyahu gets it. Shortly before being sworn in today as the new Prime Minister of Israel, he was interviewed by Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic. Not mincing any words, Netanyahu made his position completely clear.
Benjamin Netanyahu laid down a challenge for Barack Obama. The American president, he said, must stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons—and quickly—or an imperiled Israel may be forced to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities itself.

“The Obama presidency has two great missions: fixing the economy, and preventing Iran from gaining nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu told me. He said the Iranian nuclear challenge represents a “hinge of history” and added that “Western civilization” will have failed if Iran is allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

In unusually blunt language, Netanyahu said of the Iranian leadership, “You don’t want a messianic apocalyptic cult controlling atomic bombs. When the wide-eyed believer gets hold of the reins of power and the weapons of mass death, then the entire world should start worrying, and that is what is happening in Iran.”

Netanyahu said he would support President Obama’s decision to engage Iran, so long as negotiations brought about a quick end to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “How you achieve this goal is less important than achieving it,” he said, but he added that he was skeptical that Iran would respond positively to Obama’s appeals. In an hour-long conversation, held in the Knesset, Netanyahu tempered his aggressive rhetoric with an acknowledgement that nonmilitary pressure could yet work. “I think the Iranian economy is very weak, which makes Iran susceptible to sanctions that can be ratcheted up by a variety of means.” When I suggested that this statement contradicted his assertion that Iran, by its fanatic nature, is immune to pressure, Netanyahu smiled thinly and said, “Iran is a composite leadership, but in that composite leadership there are elements of wide-eyed fanaticism that do not exist right now in any other would-be nuclear power in the world. That’s what makes them so dangerous.”

He went on, “Since the dawn of the nuclear age, we have not had a fanatic regime that might put its zealotry above its self-interest. People say that they’ll behave like any other nuclear power. Can you take the risk? Can you assume that?”

Netanyahu offered Iran’s behavior during its eight-year war with Iraq as proof of Tehran’s penchant for irrational behavior. Iran “wasted over a million lives without batting an eyelash … It didn’t sear a terrible wound into the Iranian consciousness. It wasn’t Britain after World War I, lapsing into pacifism because of the great tragedy of a loss of a generation. You see nothing of the kind.”

He continued: “You see a country that glorifies blood and death, including its own self-immolation.” I asked Netanyahu if he believed Iran would risk its own nuclear annihilation at the hands of Israel or America. “I’m not going to get into that,” he said.

Merkel and Sarkozy hope he fails, too

President and Mrs. Messiah arrived in London tonight for the G20 talks, and their welcome is shaping up to be considerably less warm than was the case during the campaign.
Barack Obama flew into Britain last night ahead of the G20 summit to face demands that world leaders make significant progress on financial regulation.

Angela Merkel, the German ­chancellor, and Nicolas Sarkozy, the French ­president, will throw down the gauntlet today by staging a joint press conference in ­London demanding the G20 summit usher in a new era of global regulation of banks, ­executive bonuses, hedge funds and offshore tax havens.

In what will be seen as a challenge to Obama, they will also insist nobody at the summit should discuss a fresh stimulus package, despite a report from the ­Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development that "world trade is now in freefall".

The protesters are out in force:
As world leaders flew into London last night, parts of the capital were being boarded up in preparation for ­demonstrations which leaders fear will overshadow diplomatic negotiations.

Marchers will take to the streets from 11am in an attempt to bring the Square Mile to a halt, raising concerns about the potential for violence on one side, and overly aggressive policing on the other.

Scotland Yard's Commander Bob Broadhurst and Chief Superintendent Ian Thomas, co-ordinating the security effort, held last-minute talks yesterday with the organisers of Climate Camp, the ­largest protest group. Its organisers say they plan to set up a "festival-like" camp at an undisclosed location in the City.

The whole world is mad as hell, leaders and citizens alike. Hard to imagine that The One is going to get much buy in to his plan to buy up business. How surreal is it to have Germany and France warning us away from our socialistic path!?

Sebelius proves her qualifications

Kathleen Sebelius today proved that she really is qualified to be an Obama nominee, no matter what the pro-life crowd thinks.

Sebelius has admitted to "unintentional errors" in her tax returns for the last three years, and has paid more than $7000 in back taxes and interest. And everybody thought she was just a dumb hick from Kansas! Heck, no...she's as professional a tax cheat as any of 'em! I feel so much better now...

Much too close to call

The special election for New York's 20th Congressional District was held today. This is the election to replace Kirsten Gillibrand, the former congresswoman who was appointed to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate seat.

With all precincts reporting, but 6,000 absentee and emergency paper ballots currently under injunction until after a court conference on Monday, Democrat Scott Murphy leads Republican James Tedisco by a mere 65 votes, 77,344 to 77,279.

While I would, of course, have preferred to see a Republican blowout, this is still a pretty significant result. In November, riding the coattails of The Messiah, Gilliland trounced her opponent, 193,651 to 118,031, or 62% to 38%. The media has been reporting that NY-20 is a conservative district and I don't know the state well enough to disagree. But Barack Obama endorsed and actively campaigned for Murphy, and the election is being viewed by many as a sort of referendum on his power with the people. A drop from a 24% margin in November to a virtual tie in March does not say a great deal about the impression he is making on the good citizens of New York.

It may be a while before a final decision comes in this race, but it's already a bit of a slap in the face for The One. With a little luck, it will be the first of many. Every day I mean it more:

I hope he fails.

On Sunday, March 29, George Will wrote in the Washington Post:

"It is high time Americans heard an argument that might turn a vague national uneasiness into a vivid awareness of something going very wrong. The argument is that the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (EESA) is unconstitutional. (Emphasis mine)

By enacting it, Congress did not in any meaningful sense make a law. Rather, it made executive branch officials into legislators. Congress said to the executive branch, in effect: "Here is $700 billion. You say you will use some of it to buy up banks' 'troubled assets.' But if you prefer to do anything else with the money -- even, say, subsidize automobile companies -- well, whatever."

FreedomWorks, a Washington-based libertarian advocacy organization, argues that EESA violates "the nondelegation doctrine." Although the text does not spell it out, the Constitution's logic and structure -- particularly the separation of powers -- imply limits on the size and kind of discretion that Congress may confer on the executive branch.

The Vesting Clause of Article I says, "All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in" Congress. All. Therefore, none shall be vested elsewhere. "

Will goes on to make his point clear, but it is obvious from the above that Congress has vested in the Executive Branch the authority to decide how this money is spent!

The Constitution is not a collection of legal mumbo-jumbo. It is very simple to understand, try it:

All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in Congress.

To paraphrase a popular question, What part of ALL do they not understand?

In another crystal-clear directive, the Constitution says Congress shall write no law abridging freedom of speech. Again, that is no law. Yet Congress persists in their efforts to ban this or that speech.

Is FreedomWorks the only ones paying attention? Now that they have gotten our attention, what are we going to do about it?

Memories

I remember back in the late '70's, when I first read Atlas Shrugged, being so inspired by Francisco's speech about money that I typed the whole thing out. This was, of course, before the days of the word processor, so it was on a typewriter, and was well decorated with blobs of correction fluid.

I was absolutely delighted when I happened across this page from Capitalism Magazine today:

"So you think that money is the root of all evil?" said Francisco d'Anconia. "Have you ever asked what is the root of money? Money is a tool of exchange, which can't exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them. Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value. Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears, or of the looters, who take it from you by force. Money is made possible only by the men who produce. Is this what you consider evil?

"When you accept money in payment for your effort, you do so only on the conviction that you will exchange it for the product of the effort of others. It is not the moochers or the looters who give value to money. Not an ocean of tears not all the guns in the world can transform those pieces of paper in your wallet into the bread you will need to survive tomorrow. Those pieces of paper, which should have been gold, are a token of honor--your claim upon the energy of the men who produce. Your wallet is your statement of hope that somewhere in the world around you there are men who will not default on that moral principle which is the root of money, Is this what you consider evil?..."

Wow.

This is just awesome.

Easy Listening President

Back in the 1950s, when our rock music began to get a little "raunchy" (there was even one tune with that word as its title!), a new music format arose... called "Easy Listening". It reminded me of the old bible verse about being luke warm - worthy only of being spit out!

Today Paul Greenberg has a great column in which he describes how masses are lulled by Obama's "easy listening" rhetoric. It's great if you just don't pay attention. Paul concludes with:

"... our president's answers puzzle only if one takes them seriously. If you just lean back and let his pleasant voice wash over you in rhythmic waves, like the sound of easy-listening music coming from a radio someone has left on in the corner of a room, it can really be quite soothing. Only if you try to find a meaning in his words, or attempt to figure out the logic of his positions, does Barack Obama's smooth delivery begin to sound hollow at the core.

The trick is not to pay too much attention on these occasions. This president sounds just fine if you'll only put your mind in idle. What did G.K. Chesterton say about Times Square when he first glimpsed the Great White Way? "What a glorious garden of wonder this would be, to anyone who was lucky enough to be unable to read." Watching the presidential press conference Tuesday evening would have been an uplifting experience if only one weren't trying to make sense of what he was actually saying."

As I have written before, I long to hear someone say, "Wait a minute! What did he just say?"

Just Doodlin'

Once again I find myself wondering what our country is coming to... I guess I've been under the impression all my life that right is right and people are responsible for their own actions. I've always found that if I did something wrong, it goes away immediately if I admit it right away and can honestly say I apologize. When people try to hide their short comings is when they fall out of grace. (A word I don't often use.) I feel BHO ought to say "I'm sorry for leading people astray." He should continue by saying he was wrong and that he hasn't an idea in the world about how to fix our woes. He doesn't know a thing about hiring honest people to fill his cabinet posts. The Senate, ruled by liberal crooks like dingy Harry, approve the crooks he appoints so they can hold sway over them and force them to bend to the will of the Senate or they'll dredge up other crimes which may have been passed over during appointment time. BHO hasn't a clue. I almost feel sorry for what's going to happen to him during his 20 meetings in GBr. next week. I've never been ashamed of our leader before. I've been at odds with them and I've thought some of them were less than presidential in their actions, but I've never felt they were in over their heads like this poor schmuck. They will eat him alive. We are in real trouble, folks. We have an empty suit without his telepromptor. His ideas are socialistic if not communistic. His agenda is to bring us down to the level of third world countries. His entire life he's been around communists and socialists. His father was a horrible influence, Frank Davis was a communist and BHO's mentor, if not his biological father. But, all that aside, his training as a community activist did NOT prepare him for leading the best country in the world. He will prove to the world and, hopefully, to the people who voted for him here, that he is incapable of leading a street gang, let alone the USA.

I started this to say how I felt about KU losing last night. I don't know how I got off on that tangent... KU, at the beginning of the season, was not expected to even make it to the NCAA tournament. They certainly weren't expected to win the Big 12 championship. I am very proud of them for getting as far as they did. I would like them to know that they have a very loyal supporter in me. If Collins and Aldrich will avoid the NBA draft, next years team should be even better. Bill Self is a great coach and his under staff compliments his style. CONGRATULATIONS, KU JAY HAWKS!!!

Now, let's see what else I can rant on??? I could tell you how much I love my wife, but you all know that, so I'll quit for now. Love you all. J.

Devil's Advocate?

I'm having a semi-interesting conversation with a friend of mine, and thought I might share...

Mike: While this world is seldom anything but a tragedy, I can't help but love the beauty of this mess we call mortality by humanity. I love it all. "Good" or "bad."
Me: I can't stand it anymore. I'm going to be part of the revolution.
Mike: You'll still alienate someone. You'll always alienate someone. What would that achieve except bring about your ideals? Do you think that's right? Please don't think I'm arguing. Simply playing devil's advocate. I like to think myself a little devil. Allow me that.
Me: Damn right I do, and I'll smile when the weak die off. Did you know Kansas may pass a bill to drug test recipients of welfare? I'm getting somewhere.
Mike: Let them wither. Let our supreme presence be known through our falsely divine judgment. I'd love nothing more than to see that. No matter how wrong it'd be.
Me: Two words dear, personal responsibility. The day it matters again, I will celebrate like no other.
Mike: You're still victim to falling short. You should know this. You are just as human as the rest of them. Can you place a degree on failure? It's all still failing.
Me: I am nothing like them. I will never take an undeserved dime, meaning any money I didn't work for. I'll send you my last column to explain my point.

Well, I suppose I shut him up... Am I wrong? because I really don't think I am. Yes, we are all human, but I have difficulty finding any comparison between myself and them that is not solely in our DNA. I suppose in most senses of the title, I am a social Darwinist. Survival of the fittest. Evolution is part of our way of life and I believe it needs to take its natural toll. If dolphins can learn to blow bubbles (yes, this is a recently acquired skill) then humans can learn to take care of themselves.

An Iranian's advice to Obama

American Thinker has an inspired piece by Iranian Amil Imani, making the case against negotiating with Ahmadinejad. Incidentally, an aside...the man's name is more accurately written as Ahmadi-Nejad. I don't know how we got it wrong in the first place, but things like that have a bad habit of sticking. When you hyphenate it, it becomes much easier to annunciate.

Anyway...back to Imani's plea...here's a taste, and I strongly encourage you to read the rest at the link above.

During the U.S. presidential election, President Obama boasted that he would embark on personal diplomacy to solve our foreign policy problems with terrorist countries such as Syria and the Islamic Republic. He said that he would meet their leaders without any preconditions to settle our disputes. Doesn't that sound like a change of heart, a real change and a great relief to us all? Never mind the fact that this president has about zero experience in foreign policy matters, he is foolish enough to aim to negotiate with the ever-conniving Assad of Syria and masters of deceptions such as the mullahs of Iran.

President Obama, how do you propose to engage the point-man of the end-of-the-worlder Shiite regime in negotiation or discussion without sacrificing the valiant Iranian people who are struggling to free themselves from the yoke of fascist Islamists? You believe that you, still somewhat wet behind the ears, can do better than the four-year combined efforts of seasoned diplomats from France, Germany, and Great Britain?

There are those who see the solution in negotiation with the Mullahs. These people are either naïve or dishonest. The Mullahs' idea of negotiation is Islamic to the core. They take all and you give all since you, according to Islamic fiat, are not entitled to anything. The track record of Muslims negotiating even among themselves in places like Iraq, the Palestinian territory, Pakistan and almost every other Islamic land speaks volumes.

President Obama, it takes two to tango, as the old saying goes. The uncompromising oil-intoxicated fanatics of Iran and their proxies don't want to dance with you. They want the entire floor -- the Middle East -- and the rest of the world down the road.

If you thought you were having a bad day...

Think again. Imagine injecting yourself with the ebola virus.
BERLIN — It's a nightmare scenario worthy of a sci-fi movie script: A scientist accidentally pricks her finger with a needle used to inject the deadly Ebola virus into lab mice.

But in this case, it really happened — to an unidentified 45-year-old woman in Germany.

Within hours of the accident on March 12, several of the scientist's colleagues held a trans-Atlantic telephone conference to map out a way to save her life.

Within 24 hours, an experimental vaccine — never before tried on humans — was on its way to Germany from a lab in Canada.

Within 40 hours, the at-risk scientist was injected with the vaccine.

So far, so good. If the woman is still healthy on April 2, she can consider herself safe.

It's not a 100 percent certainty the researcher was actually infected with Ebola.

If she doesn't become infected, scientists may not know if it was the vaccine, or luck.

Baby killing bastard free to kill again

Unbelievably, a jury found Dr. George Tiller not guilty today. If you're not familiar with the case, this guy has been performing late-term abortions, killing babies who would be saved if the mother spontaneously went into labor, for years. He is one of only three doctors in the country who perfom this heinous act, and it shames me deeply that he is in my state. AP has the details.
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - One of the nation's few late-term abortion providers was acquitted Friday of misdemeanor charges stemming from procedures he performed, but moments after the verdict was announced the state's medical board announced it was investigating similar allegations against him.

Prosecutors had alleged that Dr. George Tiller had in 2003 gotten second opinions from a doctor who was essentially an employee of his, not independent as state law requires, but a jury took only about an hour to find him not guilty of all 19 counts.

Tiller, who could have faced a year in jail for even one conviction, stared straight ahead as the verdicts were read, with one of his attorneys patting his shoulder after the decision on the final count was declared. His wife, seated across the courtroom, fought back tears and nodded. The couple declined to speak to reporters afterward.

Tiller, 67, has claimed that the prosecution was politically motivated. An attorney general who opposed abortion rights began the investigation into Tiller's clinic more than four years ago, but both his successor, who filed the criminal charges, and the current attorney general support abortion rights.

Soon after the verdict was announced, the state's Board of Healing Arts made public a complaint against Tiller on allegations similar to those at issue in the criminal case. The complaint was filed in December but not released until Friday.

The board, which regulates doctors, could revoke, suspend or limit Tiller's medical license, or fine him.

Tiller has been a favored target of anti-abortion protesters, and he testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 "Summer of Mercy" protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993.

Kansas law allows abortions after a fetus can survive outside the womb only if two independent doctors agree that it is necessary to save a women's life or prevent "substantial and irreversible" harm to "a major bodily function," a phrase that has been interpreted to include mental health.

Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus provided second opinions on late-term abortions before Tiller performed them.

According to trial testimony, Tiller's patients paid Neuhaus $250 to $300 in cash for providing the consultation and the only way patients could see her was to make an appointment with Tiller's office.

Just imagine how embarrassed he will be in front of Atta and the gang when he shows up expecting to be admitted into Paradise (Qur'an 9:111), welcomed by the virgins (Qur'an 44:54), and finds out that instead he faces an eternity of drinking molten lead in hellfire (Qur'an 18:29) because he killed fellow Muslims (Qur'an 4:92).

A would-be suicide bomber accidentally blew himself up, killing six other militants as he was bidding them farewell to leave for his intended target, the Interior Ministry said.
"The terrorist was on his way to his destination and saying good-bye to his associates and then his suicide vest exploded," a statement from the ministry said....

Brownshirts Approved by Senate

Remember back during the campaign, when Obama said this?



Well...here we go.
The Senate on Thursday approved a major national service bill that triples the AmeriCorps program, despite concerns from some conservatives that it could allow politically charged groups to benefit from extra funding.

The Senate voted 78-20 to increase AmeriCorps to 250,000 from its current 75,000 positions. The legislation is expected to cost $6 billion over five years.

The House could take up the bill as early as Monday, sending it then to President Obama for his signature.

The package, called the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act, or GIVE Act, encourages a broad range of Americans to give back to their communities. It would create five groups to help poor people, improve education, encourage energy efficiency, strengthen access to health care and assist veterans.

It had widespread support on both sides of the aisle, but a small group of vocal opponents say the bill not only spends too much but could increase funding for ideologically driven groups.

U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., initially tacked on an amendment to the House bill allaying such fears -- it prohibited for-profit political and labor groups that engage in legislative advocacy from receiving certain assistance under the plan.

But conservatives cried foul after Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., submitted a substitute bill in the Senate stripping a lot of those provisions.

"If we take the restrictions away, there's nothing keeping them from funding these kinds of groups," said Foxx spokesman Aaron Groen.

IBD Slams the Control Freaks

Reform: Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's proposed sweeping reform of our nation's financial system puts the nation's banks, insurers and hedge funds under direct government control — where they least need to be.

Geithner said Thursday that President Obama's administration needs to impose "not modest repairs at the margin, but new rules of the game" for America's banks, finance companies, insurers and hedge funds.

The only problem is, the old rules of the game were set by the very people in Congress who will set the new ones. This means the new rules likely won't be much of an improvement — if any.

The irony of this, of course, was pointed out by political scientist Michael Barone, who notes the bank bailout plan unveiled by Geithner earlier this week actually relies heavily on mostly unregulated companies to bail out regulated ones.


Yeah...all that regulation is turning out so swell, we need lots more!

Meanwhile, in a limited example of speaking truth to power, Rep. Donald Manzullo (R-Ill.) proves that he values his country more than his popularity:

"Do you realize how radical your proposal is?" Rep. Donald Manzullo (R-Ill.) asked.

"It's not radical. . ." Geither began, before Manzullo interrupted him.

"You're talking about seizing private businesses and you don't consider that radical?" Manzullo replied, his voice rising.

Manzullo is trying to get Geithner to give details of the plan -- that's where Geithner got stung before -- but Geithner doesn't have them yet.

If the plan were not radical, Manzullo said to Geithner, "you would have answers to some of my questions, such as, what size business would be subject to this?"

Adopt-A-Terrorist Program!

I honestly don't know why the government is having so much trouble figuring out what to do with the Gitmo detainees. The solution is obvious...just give one to each Democrat in Congress. There aren't quite enough to go around, so we either have to dump some Dems or round up a few more bad guys.

Unfortunately, the Punch-drunk Pinhead of Pennsylvania Avenue, as usual, is going to get this one wrong. In his very first press conference, National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair said we're going to give them a shot at the American Dream. Personally, I think they will find our country far too socialist for their tastes, but I haven't spent enough time in third-world hellholes to make a real comparison.
President Barack Obama's intelligence chief confirmed Thursday that some Guantanamo inmates may be released on US soil and receive assistance to return to society.

"If we are to release them in the United States, we need some sort of assistance for them to start a new life," said National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair at his first press conference.

"You can't just put them on the street," he added. "All that is work in progress."

Obama has vowed to close the controversial prison camp by next January and has ordered individual reviews for cases against each of the over 240 remaining prisoners.

Blair told reporters that the review of Guantanamo cases was still underway, and that the government was "building dossiers on each of the detainees."

The Obama administration is currently evaluating what could be done with the prisoners, he said, but pledged that if they are sent to another country, "we have to be sure that that country will treat them in a humane fashion."

It just wouldn't be nice to hurt them...after all, they've spent several years being pampered at Club Gitmo. At the rate O'Dumbo is burning international bridges, it'll take some kind of miracle to find any foreign nation willing to take 'em back, regardless of the conditions imposed. O's Foreign Failures

Ralph Peters is every bit as impressed with Obama's foreign policy as the rest of us.
AMERICA'S enemies smell blood and it's type "O."

All new administrations stumble a bit as they seek their footing. But President Obama's foreign-policy botches have set new records for instant incompetence.

Contrary to left-wing myths, I wasn't a fan of the Bush administration. (I called for Donald Rumsfeld to get the boot in mid-2001.) But fair's fair. Despite his many faults, Bush sought to do good. Obama just wants to look good.

Vice President Dick Cheney was arrogant. Vice President Joe Biden is arrogant and stupid. Take your pick.

Don't worry about the new administration's ideology. Worry about its terrifying naivete.

Consider a sampling of the goofs O and his crew have made in just two months:

This Sunday, at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, hundreds will join the annual memorial march remembering the Bataan Death March. Registration to participate in the march is midnight, today, March 26. Details at http://www.bataanmarch.com/.

Individuals and teams from around the world come here to participate in the memorial march. But, fewer and fewer survivors of the actual March, 67 years ago, attend the event each year.

2,000 New Mexicans were forced through the 1942 march. Only three of those men men are still alive, here in our city of Las Cruces.

I am saddened by memories of the many tragedies of World War II, events in which many more suffered and died, but nothing moves me like this singular event. Imagine having been a young man, American or Filipino, pressed into service by your government yet being ill-supplied and equipped for modern warfare. Then, when attacked by a well-supplied and equipped army, that government just says, "Sorry... you're on your own."

In 1942, they said of themselves, "We're the Battlin' Bastards of Bataan, no mama, no papa, no Uncle Sam, and nobody gives a damn."

Today they just say, "Never forget".

More than 5,300 people participated in yesterday's Memorial March. Marchers came from all 50 states and from eight countries.

The Battlin' Bastards would have been pleased to know so many remembered.

We have just learned that Ward Redshaw, one of three Death March survivors still living in Las Cruces, died last Saturday, the day before this year's Memorial March.

He had appeared at every Memorial March before this year, to thank the participants for remembering, and to answer questions about the march and his three years in a prison camp in Japan. That imprisonment culminated in his hearing a massive explosion which turned out to be, yes, an atomic bomb dropped by the U.S.

Now only two of the remaining living survivors remain in Las Cruces. Julio Barela and Granville Smith.

R.I.P., American hero.

House passes drug screening bill for recipients of aid

The House passed legislation today that will require recipients of certain types of financial assistance to submit to random drug testing.

The bill passed on a vote of 99-26.

House Bill 2275 will apply to approximately 14,000 Kansans who receive financial aid through the Child Care Assistance Programs, Temporary Assistance to Families and General Assistance.

Under the bill, in order to continue receiving public assistance, recipients will need to participate in a random drug screening program which would screen one-third of these recipients each year.

If a recipient of assistance tests positive for using an illegal substance they could be required to complete an educational or treatment program, and then would be subject to additional screenings. In the event of a positive test, if a person did not complete a treatment program or if the person failed subsequent drug tests, they would no longer be able to collect the assistance.

If the legislation and the drug screening is implemented it would be expected to cost about $800,000 a year.


That's $800,000 I don't mind spending. Of course, as Kenzi pointed out, it shouldn't be necessary, because public assistance shouldn't be the government's role in the first place, but you take what you can get. Nice catch for the kid, tho!

Geithner: I'm probably going to destroy the dollar anyway

So we might just as well consider a global currency, right?
Geithner, at the Council on Foreign Relations, said the U.S. is "open" to a headline-grabbing proposal by the governor of the China's central bank, which was widely reported as being a call for a new global currency to replace the dollar, but which Geithner described as more modest and "evolutionary."

"I haven’t read the governor’s proposal. He’s a very thoughtful, very careful distinguished central banker. I generally find him sensible on every issue," Geithner said, saying that however his interpretation of the proposal was to increase the use of International Monetary Fund's special drawing rights -- shares in the body held by its members -- not creating a new currency in the literal sense.

"We’re actually quite open to that suggestion – you should see it as rather evolutionary rather building on the current architecture rather than moving us to global monetary union," he said.

"The only thing concrete I saw was expanding the use of the [special drawing rights]," Geithner said. "Anything he’s thinking about deserves some consideration."

The continued use of the dollar as a reserve currency, he added, "depends..on how effective we are in the United States...at getting our fiscal system back to the point where people judge it as sustainable over time."

I'm sure there's no cause for concern. Ole TurboTax Tim has it all under control. Move along, folks...there's nothing to see here.

Taxing times

As the gathering storm against Obama's proposed $3.6 trillion disaster of a budget begins, The One has realized that it's just not right to spend that much money and ruin the future of our nation...unless, of course, he can increase revenues a bit.


That pesky blue line just isn't going up fast enough for the Democrats to complete their socialist takeover of the last bastion of freedom on earth. This is obviously an outrage that cannot be allowed to stand...we must "rebalance" our tax code.

President Barack Obama is putting former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker in charge of a tax- code review aimed at closing loopholes, streamlining the law and generating revenue, budget director Peter Orszag said.

Volcker, 81, who heads the president’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, is being asked to take a look at the laws in an effort to rebalance the tax system.

Orszag said the review, given a deadline of Dec. 4, is being ordered to make recommendations on steps to simplify the code, built over the last 96 years, in ways that would reduce tax evasion and what he called “corporate welfare.”

“There are hundreds of billions of dollars in uncollected taxes each year,” Orszag said in a conference call. The Volcker board “will be examining ways of being even more aggressive on reducing the tax gap.”
It does seem unfair that those greedy capitalists find ways to avoid paying portions of the highest corporate taxes in the world. It's not like they would pass those costs along to the consumer or anything.

Hey, America! We're mad as hell and we're not gonna take it anymore!

That seems to be the gist of the global response to Obama and Company. With the G20 summit scheduled for London next week, President Hopenchange is not the most popular guy on the invite list. Fox News is reporting that the "president of the world" may be in big trouble internationally.
Only nine months ago, when he addressed an estimated 200,000 people in Germany, Barack Obama was heralded as "president of the world."

But now that he's president of the United States, the world doesn't appear to be following up on its endorsement.

From France to Poland, from the Czech Republic to China, many nations are rebuffing the president and offering little wiggle room for him to negotiate economic and security policies.

Obama faces his first major international test next week when the world's largest economies meet at the G20 summit in London.

"I think as the president heads to Europe, he faces a huge public relations disaster," said Nile Gardiner, director of the conservative Heritage Foundation's Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom.

"Europe is increasingly turning against his massive spending plans, which most European leaders see as a destructive way to move forward for the global economy and will only add to a massive American debt burden," Gardiner told FOXNews.com.

"At the same time, there is a growing impression across Europe that the Obama administration is inept and inefficient and increasingly poorly managed."

A top European Union politician on Wednesday slammed Obama's plans for the U.S. to spend its way out of recession as "a way to hell."
And that's just the beginning. Read the whole thing...it's absolutely astounding. Yet another first for Obama - never in the history of this country has one person managed to alienate so many, so quickly. Whew...we sure dodged a bullet with this guy...just imagine how bad it would be if we hadn't elected the guy who promised to vastly improve our image and relationships globally! Is dangerous incompetence an impeachable offense?

Hey, AIG! I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!

Such was the sentiment from Jake DeSantis, as stated in his letter of resignation, published in yesterday's New York Times. The entire letter is absolutely worth reading, but here are some of the highlights.
DEAR Mr. Liddy,

It is with deep regret that I submit my notice of resignation from A.I.G. Financial Products. I hope you take the time to read this entire letter. Before describing the details of my decision, I want to offer some context:

I am proud of everything I have done for the commodity and equity divisions of A.I.G.-F.P. I was in no way involved in — or responsible for — the credit default swap transactions that have hamstrung A.I.G. Nor were more than a handful of the 400 current employees of A.I.G.-F.P. Most of those responsible have left the company and have conspicuously escaped the public outrage.

After 12 months of hard work dismantling the company — during which A.I.G. reassured us many times we would be rewarded in March 2009 — we in the financial products unit have been betrayed by A.I.G. and are being unfairly persecuted by elected officials. In response to this, I will now leave the company and donate my entire post-tax retention payment to those suffering from the global economic downturn. My intent is to keep none of the money myself.

I take this action after 11 years of dedicated, honorable service to A.I.G. I can no longer effectively perform my duties in this dysfunctional environment, nor am I being paid to do so. Like you, I was asked to work for an annual salary of $1, and I agreed out of a sense of duty to the company and to the public officials who have come to its aid. Having now been let down by both, I can no longer justify spending 10, 12, 14 hours a day away from my family for the benefit of those who have let me down.

I think your initial decision to honor the contracts was both ethical and financially astute, but it seems to have been politically unwise. It’s now apparent that you either misunderstood the agreements that you had made — tacit or otherwise — with the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, various members of Congress and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo of New York, or were not strong enough to withstand the shifting political winds.

You’ve now asked the current employees of A.I.G.-F.P. to repay these earnings. As you can imagine, there has been a tremendous amount of serious thought and heated discussion about how we should respond to this breach of trust.

As most of us have done nothing wrong, guilt is not a motivation to surrender our earnings. We have worked 12 long months under these contracts and now deserve to be paid as promised. None of us should be cheated of our payments any more than a plumber should be cheated after he has fixed the pipes but a careless electrician causes a fire that burns down the house.

Many of the employees have, in the past six months, turned down job offers from more stable employers, based on A.I.G.’s assurances that the contracts would be honored. They are now angry about having been misled by A.I.G.’s promises and are not inclined to return the money as a favor to you.

The only real motivation that anyone at A.I.G.-F.P. now has is fear. Mr. Cuomo has threatened to “name and shame,” and his counterpart in Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal, has made similar threats — even though attorneys general are supposed to stand for due process, to conduct trials in courts and not the press.

Mr. Liddy, I wish you success in your commitment to return the money extended by the American government, and luck with the continued unwinding of the company’s diverse businesses — especially those remaining credit default swaps. I’ll continue over the short term to help make sure no balls are dropped, but after what’s happened this past week I can’t remain much longer — there is too much bad blood. I’m not sure how you will greet my resignation, but at least Attorney General Blumenthal should be relieved that I’ll leave under my own power and will not need to be “shoved out the door.”

Still winning friends

The president of the European Union, Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, said today that the U.S. is on its "way to hell." Got news for you, Mirek....we're already there.
A top European Union politician on Wednesday slammed U.S. plans to spend its way out of recession as "a way to hell."

Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, whose country currently holds the EU presidency, told the European Parliament that President Barack Obama's massive stimulus package and banking bailout "will undermine the stability of the global financial market."

A day after his government collapsed because of a parliamentary vote of no-confidence, Topolanek took the EU presidency on a collision course with Washington over how to deal with the global economic recession.

Most European leaders favor tighter financial regulation, while the U.S. has been pushing for larger economic stimulus plans.

Topolanek's comments are the strongest criticism so far from a European leader as the 27-nation bloc bristles from recent U.S. criticism that it is not spending enough to stimulate demand.

They also pave the way for a stormy summit next week in London between leaders of the Group of 20 industrialized countries.

Should be a constructive meeting for President Chucklehead.

The Toxic Assets We Elected

With the braying of 328 yahoos -- members of the House of Representatives who voted for retroactive and punitive use of the tax code to confiscate the legal earnings of a small, unpopular group -- still reverberating, the Obama administration yesterday invited private-sector investors to become business partners with the capricious and increasingly anti-constitutional government. This latest plan to unfreeze the financial system came almost half a year after Congress shoveled $700 billion into the Troubled Assets Relief Program, $325 billion of which has been spent without purchasing any toxic assets.

TARP funds have, however, semi-purchased, among many other things, two automobile companies (and, last week, some of their parts suppliers), which must amaze Sweden. That unlikely tutor of America regarding capitalist common sense has said, through a Cabinet minister, that the ailing Saab automobile company is on its own: "The Swedish state is not prepared to own car factories."

How about a Domestic Contingency Operation?

The Washington Post is reporting the end of the Global War on Terror. Unfortunately, this does not mean that we have defeated the Islamofascists...rather that we are being even more politically correct...except in this case, it's completely incorrect, politically or otherwise.

The end of the Global War on Terror -- or at least the use of that phrase -- has been codified at the Pentagon. Reports that the phrase was being retired have been circulating for some time amongst senior administration officials, and this morning speechwriters and other staff were notified via this e-mail to use "Overseas Contingency Operation" instead.

"Recently, in a LtGen [John] Bergman, USMC, statement for the 25 March [congressional] hearing, OMB required that the following change be made before going to the Hill," Dave Riedel, of the Office of Security Review, wrote in an e-mail.

"OMB says: 'This Administration prefers to avoid using the term "Long War" or "Global War on Terror" [GWOT]. Please use "Overseas Contingency Operation.'"
Ok. I propose we start a Domestic Contingency Operation. We need to figure out who is going to run this country when the citizens get so damned mad that they storm Washington D.C. in hordes, destroying everything in their paths. These idiots are living in Fairyland. Thank you, President Tinkerbell, for once again showing me that it is possible for me to be ashamed to be an American.

Just Doodlin'

I've been hearing about our president. I hear he has been making a fool of himself on TV and in any interview where he doesn't have his telepromptor. You, not I, have elected a well spoken, when in front of the telepromptor, empty suit. If he's not deliberately leading us down the path to destruction, he's doing it because he's too wordly dumb to realize what he's doing. I believe it's deliberate. I believe his meetings with ex-presidents or ex-heads of state from France, and Russia, are planned and intended to undermine their countries as well as ours. He said in his book that he would lean toward the Muslims. I believe that's what this is all about.
His treatment of Mr. Browne of Great Britain was disgraceful. He is treating our best ally shamefully and sidling up to ex-enemies. This man is deep cover out to ruin the USA. He should be impeached NOW, not in 2 years or so when he has really put us behind the eight ball.
Come on, America. Get up on your hind legs and howl. Howl at the non-representative representatives in DC and get the ball rolling. Impeach this stupid bastard before he destroys us... Just a thought!!!

Trying to figure out the plot

We can be fairly certain that the administration is not stupid enough to have lost track of the current leaders of foreign countries. I mean, everyone knows that Sarkozy is top dog in France, and Medvedev in Russia, right? So what the hell are they up to?

Last week, LeFigaro, a French publication, reported on a letter Obama wrote to Chirac (as translated by translate.google.com):

The U.S. President has just sent a letter "very sympathetic" to Jacques Chirac, in the words of the latter. "I am confident that we can over the next four years working together in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world," writes the successor to George W. Bush's predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy. In mentioning the word "peace," Obama makes implicit tribute to the action of the former French president who opposed the war in Iraq. A U.S. intervention against which the future U.S. president had opposed as a senator, in a vote in Congress.
Obama and Chirac will be working together over the next four years? Bet that was news to Chirac! Why Chirac, and not Sarkozy? Is it not disrespectful, if not downright deceptive, to propose working with the former leader of the country? How would we react if a new president in France proposed working with George W. Bush, rather than Obama? Ok, bad example...we'd be elated. But the circumstances are a bit different...and I'm sure Obama and his worshippers would be gravely insulted.

Now Reuters is reporting that Obama bin Biden met secretly with Mikhail Gorbachev:

U.S. President Barack Obama has held talks with Mikhail Gorbachev, a spokesman for the former Soviet leader said on Monday, in the latest sign of Washington's efforts to "press the reset button" on ties with Russia.

Spokesman Konstantin Petrenko said Gorbachev met Obama and Vice President Joe Biden -- who coined the 'reset' phrase last month -- in Washington last Friday. He did not give any details of the discussion.

Coming on the heels of the Gordon Brown snub, and the ridiculous overtures to Iran, I find this deeply disturbing.

I don't think I'm alone in my lack of trust in these people. Poland has been left hanging, wondering if we are still going to support them:
Poland said on Sunday it hoped the new U.S. administration would not abandon plans to station a missile defence system on its territory.

President Barack Obama's administration is reviewing U.S. security policy, including the missile shield plan. This has prompted speculation he might shelve a project that has angered Moscow, with which Washington wants to mend ties.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said Poland had taken "something of a political risk" in signing an agreement with the Bush administration to host the system.

"When we started discussing this with the United States, the U.S. assured us they would persuade the Russians that it was purely defensive and it would be a non-controversial decision," he told the annual Brussels Forum conference.

"We signed with the old administration; we patiently wait for the new administration, and we hope we don't regret our trust in the United States," he said, adding that Russia had continued to threaten to deploy missiles near Poland if the shield were deployed.
To say that they took "something of a political risk" in supporting this plan is an enormous understatement. Poland and the Czech Republic have put their heads on the chopping block by going along with us on this, but, two months into the Golden Era of Obama, they apparently have received no guidance from Dear Leader as to his planned course.

Our new foreign policy seems to be to offend our allies, embrace our enemies, evidence complete impotence to the radically dangerous, and light fuses on the powder keg nations that are already struggling to maintain control (e.g. Pakistan). I simply cannot believe that all of these acts, in combination, are just coincidental stupid mistakes. Just as I believe that A.I.G. was an intentional firestorm, ignited to distract from the latest giant leap toward socialism, I think there is a more sinister reason for all of this bad diplomacy. I just wish I could figure out what it is.
Kudos to the Obama Administration

They have managed to pull off what I would never have believed possible. They give AIG $175 Billion taxpayer dollars in an incredibly stupid bailout move, and managed to get the media and a majority of the American public to overlook that outrage and become angry, instead, because AIG used less than one-tenth of one per cent of that total to fulfill contractural obligations... obligations that carried the full force of the law and would surely have landed the company in court if they had not complied.

Compare that adroit bit of deception with poor old Bill Clinton's awkward attempt to confuse people with the definition of the word "is"!

If the minimum wage wasn't bad enough...

Now President Sock Puppet is proposing enforcement of a maximum wage. First they came for A.I.G....

The New York Times is reporting that Obama plans to increase federal oversight of "executive pay at all banks, Wall Street firms and possibly other companies as part of a sweeping plan to overhaul financial regulation."

The officials said that the administration was still debating the details of its plan, including how broadly it should be applied and how far it could range beyond simple reporting requirements. Depending on the outcome of the discussions, the administration could seek to put the changes into effect through regulations rather than through legislation.

One proposal could impose greater requirements on the boards of companies to tie executive compensation more closely to corporate performance and to take other steps to assure that outsize bonuses are not paid before meeting financial goals.

The new rules will cover all financial institutions, including those not now covered by any pay rules because they are not receiving federal bailout money. Officials say the rules could also be applied more broadly to publicly traded companies, which already report about some executive pay practices to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Last month, as part of the stimulus package, Congress barred top executives at large banks getting rescue money from receiving bonuses exceeding one-third of their annual pay.

Beyond the pay rules, officials said the regulatory plan is expected to call for a broad new role for the Federal Reserve to oversee large companies, including major hedge funds, whose problems could pose risks to the entire financial system.

Long before he became Treasury secretary, Timothy F. Geithner had sought broader authority for the government to resolve problems at financial institutions that were not under the supervision of bank regulators.

The government now has the power to take over only the banking unit that controls federally insured deposits of large troubled institutions, not the parent company, a limit that could pose problems if large financial conglomerates like Citigroup or Bank of America continued to spiral downward.

In unveiling the regulatory plan this week, President Obama would signal to Europe that he intended to crack down on the risk-taking and other free-wheeling practices by the financial industry that resulted in the global economic meltdown.

In truth, what Obama is signaling is that he is expanding government in ever wider ways, sublimating the will of the people and marching us on a steady course toward European-style socialism.

I become increasingly convinced that A.I.G. was a setup. They absolutely knew about those bonuses when the stimulus bill was being written - Chris Dodd has told us as much with his special amendment to exempt bonuses agreed upon prior to February 11th. They knew, and they planned it this way. Let the bonuses be paid, then, after the fact, make them known to the general public, and release the story in such a way that the uninformed masses will hate the bonus recipients. At least one member of Congress, Charles Grassley, I think, actually went so far as to say that those who received the bonuses should kill themselves! They have succeeded beautifully. The public is absolutely outraged about those bonuses, and absolutely loathes the recipients. The anger and hatred that should rightfully be directed at our elected officials is instead, 100% by design, targeting free enterprise business people.

Now, while the hatred is rampant, the administration announces that they will take care of us - will administer justice on our behalf - by limiting how much these evil capitalists are allowed to earn. But they're not just going after the companies that received bailout funds...no, they are leaving it open. Already planning to target all banks, Wall Street, and "possibly other companies." Possibly other companies? Possibly every company? But the public will cheer, thrilled that the rich, evil bastards are getting their comeuppance, ecstatic that someone is looking out for us!

How long will it be before it's not just the top executives? How long before it becomes all of us? How long before President Robin Hood and his band of merry idiots will tell all of us how much money we're entitled to earn?

America, WAKE UP! This is not how a free market society functions! The rich are rich because they know more, or work harder, or supply a product that everyone wants and needs, not because they are evil thieves who make their fortunes by keeping the rest of us down.

Dr. Adrian Rogers said it spendidly:

You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

Learn those words, and live by them, or you will wake up one day in a country you no longer recognize and find yourself wondering how in the world it ever came to this.

Beck and Basso...my heroes!

Glenn Beck is just brilliant. If you watch only one hour of television a day, make sure it's his show (airs at 5pm Eastern on Fox News). Every show, every day, is an unparalleled learning experience. I could rave about him all day.

Yesterday, though, he had another of my heroes on his show - a man named Bob Basso, the star of this video.



I first saw Mr. Basso some time ago, in his first production.



Beck interviewed Basso on his show Friday, and revealed him to be just an "ordinary" American - at least in the sense that our ancestors were "ordinary." His passion, like Glenn Beck's, should be a guiding light for all of us. Thank you, Mr. Basso. You are truly an American Hero.

A little more on A.I.G.

It's entirely possible that I'm way off base here, and I have no concrete information to back up my hypothesis, but I've been thinking a lot about A.I.G.

The one thing I have heard is that those bonuses were called "retention bonuses" by the media. To me, that opens up a whole new set of possibilities that no one else seems to be contemplating.

Suppose, just for a moment, that the people who were slated to receive these bonuses were the really big brains of the operation. This seems like a fairly reasonable assumption - it's unlikely that secretaries or custodians are raking in the big bucks.

I've also heard that it was one division of A.I.G., their Financial Services division, that went totally to crap and caused the majority of their meltdown. So let's further suppose that these deep thinking bonus grabbers are not part of the Financial Services division, or at least that most of them are not. This also seems reasonable to me. At a minimum, it's possible, if not likely. Corporations are in business to make money - they do not do that by rewarding those who fail.

So now we are talking about rewarding people who were not responsible for the problem, and may be the only hope for saving the company. We, as taxpayers, now have a considerable stake, $175 billion worth, in A.I.G. Should we not be wishing for the company to succeed? Is it not in our own personal best interest for them to turn this thing around and make fistfuls of dollars? What is the likelihood of them being able to do that if all of their best and brightest minds jump ship? If they lose the people of ability, how can they ever beome successful again? It just seems to me that we should be cheerleading for these people, crossing our fingers and hoping that they can pull off a minor miracle, not condemning them and taxing them into the poor house. If one-tenth of one percent of the money we have given them can help make them profitable again by retaining their people of talent, then I'm all for it!

Once again, our government has put us in a highly unfavorable position by bailing A.I.G. out in the first place; now they are compounding that error by stripping A.I.G. of any hope of ever being able to repay that bailout. And the sheeple, as usual, just aren't paying attention.
Gimme a "B". Gimme a "M"

I was talking to an old friend and happened to mention the three forbidden letters... A-I-G-! The friend began to rant... "Those bastards... Give them 175 billion in bailouts and they turn around and give 160 billion in bonuses!"

(Whoa!!! I couldn't let that go.)

"Wait a minute, they got 175 Billiion - with a "B" and gave bonuses of around 160 Million - with an "M"! Bonuses were less than one-tenth of one per cent of the bailout total!"

"Oh." said the friend.

There are two ways to look at this. Either that is the way it was planned... confuse 'em with Bs and Ms, to divert attention from the fact that they have given away our future; or else it is just the old game of class warfare... piss people off because someone is making a lot more money than they are. Either way, it does distract people and obscure what they have really done to us!

Personally, I lust over a few thousand - the price of a new camera and a couple of sexy new lenses so I can take a picture of the owl that landed on the roof of the nearby church.

The idea of a multi-million dollar cash windfall is beyond my dreams. But, it was my decision to drop out of school those many years ago so I do not resent the guy who hung in there and learned how to do things I can't even imagine and who today is paid big bucks as a result.

Unfortunately, that is not a widely shared view. A lot of people, as Ayn Rand once said, "hate the good for being good". So it is easy to start a fire with the mere mention that some guy was paid a huge bonus.

And starting fires to create smoke screens, seems to be what our government is all about these days.

Just Doodlin'

Well, all my children and my wife talked me into signing up on Facebook. Why I went along, I'll never know. I guess it can mean more than the PITA it took to set it all up. Maybe I'll get to see or read something cute that my daughters thought I needed to see on Facebook instead of just sending me a picture via email. I don't know at this point. I do know that it took an hour just to tell it things I didn't want to allow and things I don't want to have happen to me. If the name is in blue I can click on it and go to that person't page. If I don't want everyone to know what I said I need to find a different blue name to click on. I'm too old for this stuff. (stuff is a substitute word) So, there it is. I am now on facebook. Go for it America, do your best to interupt my work day. Have my computer tell me I have mail 24/7. I'm up for it. I can sleep through a thunder storm, but when I hear April's voice from my computer tell me "you have mail" I'm awake.
Speaking of being awake, the pup woke me this morning at 6:30. I took him into the laundry room to pee on his mat. He didn't need to go, but I did... So after I made that special trip for him, we were walking back to the bedroom when all of a sudden, he decided he had to go. The only mat to go on at that time was our carpet. I wanted to dropkick him across the living room. I didn't of course. He's too cute for that.
Dogs, I don't know what ever possesed me. At least April and sometimes Mackenzie are thrilled to have the little bugger on board. I'll stop complaining for now.
Oh, did I mention KU won yesterday? All 6 Big 12 teams won their opening games in the big dance... No other conference can say that. Go Jayhawks...

In just two months, Dear Leader has fallen from a +30 to a +4 approval rating, according to Rasmussen. Along with that drop has come an inverse rise in jokes at his expense, fueled by the arrogance, incompetence and ignorance of The One and The Two.

Toby Harnden, in the U.K. Telegraph, helpfully posts his list of the ten worst gaffes of Obama bin Biden since election day...complete with video!

The above picture comes from blogger Mike Moody, and was happily embraced by the real brains of the Obama administration, Barack's teleprompter, now blogging in its own right, here. I must say, the teleprompter shows a great deal more wisdom, insight and patriotism than does its owner, which raises questions about succession should anything happen to Obama. The teleprompter is clearly better qualified to be leader of the free world than Joe Biden...

If the effects of their bungling weren't so deadly serious for our country, I'd be having a great time with all of this stuff!

The beginning of the end of the War on Weed

Attorney General Eric Holder signaled a change on medical marijuana policy Wednesday, saying federal agents will target marijuana distributors only when they violate both federal and state law.

That would be a departure from the Bush administration, which targeted medical marijuana dispensaries in California even if they complied with that state's law.

So reports the Associated Press.

The Libertarian in me approves of this action as a step in the right direction. We spend millions pursuing, prosecuting and jailing people who are harmless to all but themselves. Marijuana is a huge part of the problem with the drug cartels in Mexico and the associated violence that is becoming more and more common in our own cities. As I've stated before, legalized, controlled and taxed, pot could become part of the solution instead of being such a big chunk of the problem.

However, even while I see this as a step in the right direction, I still condemn the administration for their approach. It is clear that Obama does not see marijuana as a threat to society - he fairly brags about how much of it he has inhaled in his life. Why, then, does he not have the guts to just be straightforward about it and open the debate over legalization and regulation, rather than chipping away, bit by bit, at existing laws? Why must every act be sneaky and deceptive? Why can't we, just once, have an open and honest debate on the merits of an issue, instead of having those in power tweak the rules behind our backs?

It reflects a fundamental problem with this administration - an obvious belief on their part that what they do will not stand up to scrutiny. They know that their plans and proposals will not be embraced by the American people if they are presented in a straightforward manner. Every project must be presented deceptively, vaguely...giving only those bits of information that will not be too objectionable or noticeable, or cause too much public outrage. By the time most of the folks figure out what they're doing, it's too late, it's already been done. We have a team of weasels in the White House. We'd better not take our eyes off the hen house.

Errors in judgment

Dear Leader has made many mistakes in his short reign of terror, on every front: economy, foreign policy, cabinet (and other) appointments, legislation, etc. Indeed, virtually everything he has done to date would qualify as an error by my standards. But now he's apparently trying to take himself down.

For the second time, in just four weeks, O'Dumbo is demanding prime time television coverage for a staged address. At a time when our economy is struggling and the networks are fighting for ratings, The Messiah has chosen to preempt the number one show on television, American Idol. For the second time in four weeks, the networks are forced to juggle their schedules, cancel scheduled advertising, and lose revenues to bring the word of The One to the public. And they are not pleased. Mistake number one: gradually chipping away at the good will of his extended public relations team.

Mistake number two: bumping the show that is most watched by his biggest fans. These young dunderheads don't give a damn about the real nuts and bolts of politics and what it takes to run a nation. They were on board for the campaign because it was all vague, touchy feely hopenchange. They don't want to hear him talk about saving healthcare - that's for the old folks! They couldn't care less what policies he enacts...but they will care that he is bumping their favorite Idols again. Idol is almost a cult phenomenon, and making a habit of upstaging it will have a backlash.

Most likely he figures that is the prime slot for him to speak - when all those young viewers are tuned in. But in the long run, this will be one of his most personally costly errors in judgment.

Rush has started calling him the Teleprompter of the United States. Unfortunately for The Messiah, even the 'prompter has begun to turn on him!

Just yesterday, during a St. Patrick's Day event with the Irish prime minister, Obama's guest accidentally repeated teleprompter remarks that Obama had just delivered.

Next, trying to regain control of the situation, Obama interjected - but referred to the teleprompter for his lines. By this point the words on the teleprompter were those meant to be delivered by the Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen, and as a result, President Barack Obama thanked himself for inviting everyone to the party.

What kind of boob, faced with a teleprompter that is obviously not on the correct page, mindlessly recites whatever words happen to appear there? It has become increasingly obvious of late that he is no longer even pretending to be a great orator. Apply a little critical thinking to the words he spews and you'll see it, too. The eyes go from one 'prompter to the other, never even flashing on the audience, the emphasis and emotion has given way to a mostly monotonic drone. He is obviously just reading words, with no real concept of what they mean. Just what we need in this time of immense challenge to our country: President Sock Puppet.

Martin Niemoeller back in the days of Hitler's Germany. Niemoeller was a decorated U-Boat Captain and pastor of great distinction. An avid anti-communist, Niemoeller at first supported Hitler's rise to power and was hesitant to oppose the violations of civil rights against various groups he personally found distasteful. It did not take long, however, before Niemoeller realized that when laws protecting the rights of all were removed from some, no one was safe--including him. Unfortunately, he learned his lesson too late, as he, too, was persecuted and imprisoned by Hitler's State Police.

Grow up or shut up!

Robert Gibbs is a jerk. An immature, snarky, unprofessional jerk. From Fox News:
The White House has already pegged Rush Limbaugh as the leader of the Republican Party, so who does that make No. 2 in the GOP? Why, Dick Cheney, of course.

That was the essence of the sarcastic remark President Obama's press secretary, Robert Gibbs, offered Monday when he was asked to respond to criticism from the former vice president.

Cheney, interviewed Sunday on CNN, said Obama was making the U.S. less safe by reversing Bush administration policies toward terror suspects.

"Well, I guess Rush Limbaugh was busy," Gibbs said to laughter during his daily briefing with reporters. "So they trotted out the next most popular member of the Republican cabal."

Gibbs said Obama is keeping the nation safe and dealing with problems George W. Bush's administration did not.
At least he's got that last part right. Bush never dealt with the lack of free money to deadbeat homebuyers, the financing shortfalls of "community organizers" or the dearth of dog parks. I could go on all day with all the problems the new administration is tackling. It remains to be seen how safe they are keeping the nation. Mostly, however, they are embarrassing the hell out of all of us with their complete lack of character and professionalism.

Commander-In-Cheap

Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion is rightly upset with The One for his plans to add insult to injury when it comes to our military.
The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization says he is "deeply disappointed and concerned" after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.

"It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan," said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. "He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it."

The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, "This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ' to care for him who shall have borne the battle' given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm's way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America's veterans!"

"I got the distinct impression that the only hope of this plan not being enacted," said Commander Rehbein, "is for an alternative plan to be developed that would generate the desired $540-million in revenue. The American Legion has long advocated for Medicare reimbursement to VA for the treatment of veterans. This, we believe, would more easily meet the President's financial goal. We will present that idea in an anticipated conference call with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel in the near future.

"I only hope the administration will really listen to us then. This matter has far more serious ramifications than the President is imagining," concluded the Commander.

Good luck with Rahmbo, Commander. Hubris and the audacity of greed. Imagine asking our nation's finest to risk their lives to defend the rest of us, then not being willing to pick up the tab should they be wounded in service. These bastards in D.C. are giving billions (with a B) to ACORN, a group of unscrupulous, rag-tag hoodlums who are under indictment in multiple states, but won't pony up $540 million to care for the fine men and women who went in to battle to save their worthless asses from our enemies. And imagine the outcry were anyone to propose that they pay for their own healthcare! These hypocritical pieces of dung are not fit to call themselves Americans.

Another thank you to President Bush

Investor's Business Daily has another outstanding piece today, this time on the advances made in Iraq, and rapidly changing public attitudes.
In most ways, the news from Iraq couldn't be better. People there feel more secure, and are more committed to democracy, than ever. Is it possible that President Bush was right after all?

A poll of average Iraqis conducted by ABC News, the BBC and Japan's NHK shows significant progress on virtually all fronts. Yet, we've heard nary a peep about it from anyone.

Some 85% of respondents said their neighborhood security was "good," vs. 62% a year ago and just 43% in August of 2007. And 52% said security had gotten better in the last year — during the Bush-Petraeus "surge," which was widely ridiculed at the time as an unnecessary escalation of the Iraq War.

Support for democracy jumped to 64%, a 21-percentage-point gain since 2007, according to a report on CNSNews.com. As for how Iraqis felt about the general state of affairs in Iraq, 58% called it "very good" or "quite good," up significantly from 43% last year and 22% in 2007.

When asked what their concerns are today, Iraqis sound a lot like Americans: Jobs and prices are at the top of their list — not war, not security, not terrorism.

In short, it sounds like we not only won the war, but the peace as well.

After being bashed relentlessly in the media and on the campaign trail, President Bush left the White House with his approval ratings low and little, except his dignity, intact.

If he is to have a Truman-like reprieve in the public eye, it will surely come as we all start to realize that on Iraq, contrary to popular and elite opinion, Bush got it right. Mission accomplished.

I can't even imagine how it must feel to know that you were the single person most responsible for the liberation of millions of people. Perhaps that is thanks enough.

Russian woman held for eating friend: report

A woman from Russia's Siberian region of Irkutsk has been arrested for killing a friend and then eating part of the corpse, Interfax news agency reported, quoting local investigators.

The incident occurred on March 5 when the two women were drinking together at the suspect's home and an argument broke out between them.

In a separate case, prosecutors in Russia's Udmurtiya region said last week they were searching for a man suspected of cannibalism after the mutilated body of a woman was found in the town of Izhevsk, according to the prosecutor's website.

Sound waves finally reach liberal media

The liberal New York Daily News has finally heard what we've been screaming for two years:
More than a bad day: Worries grow that Barack Obama & Co. have a competence problem

Not long ago, after a string of especially bad days for the Obama administration, a veteran Democratic pol approached me with a pained look on his face and asked, "Do you think they know what they're doing?"

The question caught me off guard because the man is a well-known Obama supporter. As we talked, I quickly realized his asking suggested his own considerable doubts.

Yes, it's early, but an eerily familiar feeling is spreading across party lines and seeping into the national conversation. It's a nagging doubt about the competency of the White House.

Which brings us to the heart of the matter: the doubts about Obama himself. His famous eloquence is wearing thin through daily exposure and because his actions are often disconnected from his words. His lack of administrative experience is showing.

His promises and policies contradict each other often enough that evidence of hypocrisy is ceasing to be news. Remember the pledges about bipartisanship and high ethics? They're so last year.

The beat goes on. Last week, Obama brazenly gave a speech about earmark reform just after he quietly signed a $410 billion spending bill that had about 9,000 earmarks in it. He denounced Bush's habit of disregarding pieces of laws he didn't like, so-called signing statements, then issued one himself.

And in an absolute jaw-dropper, he told business leaders, "I don't like the idea of spending more government money, nor am I interested in expanding government's role."

No wonder Americans are confused. Our President is, too.
