Personal Responsibility and Voting: The Obama Edition

Casting a ballot is really no different than hiring an employee. Of course, millions of others have an equal voice in the decision of whom to hire, but each individual should approach the decision as a real and solemn responsibility. This is never more true than when voting for the office of President of the United States, arguably the most powerful position on Earth.

Barack Obama could not have presented his thin resume to the board of directors of any major corporation in the world and been selected to serve as Chief Executive Officer for that corporation. Yet he was elected to the position of Chief Executive of the most powerful nation in existence.

Putting aside my fundamental disagreements with Obama and his vision of America and focusing only on qualifications for the position, this man is in no way qualified for the office he holds. What would the qualifications be for the Leader of the Free World? At a bare minimum he should have extremely strong, demonstrated leadership abilities - Obama has absolutely none. As Mitt Romney pointed out last year, the man has never run anything except his own campaign - not so much as a corner store.

A President should be a man of impeccable judgment. Obama has so little he spent 20 years attending Jeremiah Wright's church, was married by the man and had Wright baptise his children. He is friends, on some level, however casual, with domestic terrorist William Ayers. How many domestic terrorists and screaming radical preachers do you count among your circle of friends and acquaintances?

Perhaps most of all, a President should have a deep and passionate love for his country. Obama made it abundantly clear for years before his election that he believes that this country is fundamentally flawed and in need of a complete makeover. His wife and supposed soul mate famously made remarks about being proud of her country for the first time, not because of any accomplishments worthy of world reknown, but because its sheepish citizens were blindly and unthinkingly embracing her husband. This is the only thing the woman has ever found worthy of pride in this country? This alone should have sent voters scurrying away from the man and everything he represents.

One could cite countless other possible qualifications for the office of President of the United States, but only when the questionable requirement of being a great orator is mentioned do we finally hit upon one which Obama might possess. Even here, however, there are problems. Any thinking person who listened to his campaign rhetoric and thought critically about the actual substance of his words would have found him extremely wanting. He spoke of hope and change, but offered no concrete plans for change or realistic reasons for hope. There are many positive attitude speakers who could make an arena full of people feel good, but none, Obama included, are qualified to lead the world.

Millions of Americans cast aside their personal responsibilities as voters last November. They blindly and unthinkingly allowed their votes to be stolen by empty words from an empty suit. If there is one consolation in all of this for those of us who spent all of last year screaming at the top of our lungs what a complete failure Obama would be, it is that we are being proven right in record time. As approval ratings plunge and voters emerge from their stupors to discover that they have been made fools, we can only hope that they will learn something from this nation destroying experiment in popularity. Next time, think before you vote. If that's not possible, please do your country a favor and just stay home.
