This is an idea I've been kicking around for some time now. We share so many common values and interests, it seems only natural to have a forum to discuss them.
This is not intended to be a formal setting which requires long, elegant writings, but rather a friendly place where we can pop in as desired to share thoughts, opinions, news, etc. I know that some of you are probably not very experienced with the world of blogging, and I will be glad to lend a hand to help you get started - but I really hope you will get started! I have invited just a short list of politically like-minded family members as a start, but welcome suggestions for new authors if you have them. If you do not already have one, you will have to create a Google account to post here...it's free and easy to set up. Again, let me know if you need help.
I chose the name Uncle Sam's Tavern for several reasons. First, obviously, in honor of my father, the Grand Patriarch of our family, and the person whose knowledge and values I most respect in the world. Second, because of the patriotic connotation of Uncle Sam...I know that each person I have invited to join me here deeply loves this flawed nation of ours and wants, very much, to see her remain the bastion of hope that she has been since her founding 233 years ago. And, finally, the Tavern, because that's the kind of atmosphere I hope to engender - relaxed, casual, friendly and occasionally a bit bawdy.

As you know, I am very inexperienced when it comes to blogging. It took me several minutes to find a way to contribute to this blog. I know April wants this to be a fun blog that the family can enjoy by sharing tidbits of information something akin to face book but more private... So, Let's try communicating this way for a bit and see how it goes. Love you all, John
