Appoint only a woman

to the U. S. supreme court?

Not only is that a litmus test, it is blatantly anti-feminine! Do we urgently need another woman on the court?

What we urgently need are the nine most highly-qualified judges in the United States. What constitutes qualification? Who knows. Experience, education, temperament, work ethic, all count.

Does gender matter? Can women qualify? Foolish questions. Women certainly are smart enough (on the average, probably smarter than an average group of men). Many are educated enough. Many have proven themselves hard workers. Many have the temperament to be good judges. I would be perfectly happy to see only women on the court. But not just because they are women! And I would certainly hate to see a woman as dumb as now-Senator Claire McCaskell, who wanted a law to limit CEO pay.

This brings to mind the ramblings of that air-headed law professor Susan Estridge. Estridge insisted that newspapers carry more columns by female columnists. Wow! Never mind that there are a lot of excellent female journalists who think, research, and regularly write about current affairs with exceptional incite and intelligence. I read them on a regular basis and learn a great deal by doing so. I love Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Debra Saunders, Kathryn Lopez, Rachel Marsden, to name a few. Their columns are clear, biting, full of truth.... they make me think!

But how unfair to suggest that their work be published because they are women. Estrich infuriated some female columnists. One wondered if she would see her column published because the publishers thought it important for their readers to hear what she had to say... or did her column appear because the publisher had to meet his quota of female writers?

Do we want a female judge to some day say, "I worked hard, studied hard, tried to honestly interpret and apply the constitution, but I made it to the supreme Court because I have a vagina."? Hopefully no more so than to hear them say"... because I was Hispanic (or African, or Asian, or pro-abortion, or anti gay rights.....)."

  1. Leave it to Obama to bring the failed Affirmative Action program to the Supreme Court! To make it even worse, now the Dems are suggesting that they should look outside the judiciary for the next appointment...why in the world would we need a person with prior experience on the highest court in the land? We don't have any in the White House! Story is here.
