Homeland Security is targeting...me?

I'm a proud gun owning, tea party attending, blog reading and writing, Constitution supporting American citizen. Apparently in the eyes of the current administration that makes me a "right-wing radical." And a racist to boot.

The story has been covered in great detail, here, here, and here among other places. Read one or all if you choose.

The gist of the story is that anyone who disagrees with the recent actions of our government is a right-wing nut case who must be closely watched. Particularly of concern are returning members of the military and the seven million people who have requested background checks for the purpose of purchasing a weapon since November. They even go so far as to suggest that we may be forming terrorist groups! Do you see the irony here? Violent acts committed by Muslim extremists are "man-caused disasters" - but patriotic citizens are potential terrorists! If you are not outraged, you are not paying attention.

They are also blatantly playing the race card, saying repeatedly that the election of America's first African American president is a great enlistment tool for white supremacist groups. Let me go on the record right now: I don't care if the man is black, white or green with purple polka dots. If he is trying to rob me, my children and grandchildren of all that we hold dear, I will oppose him! Like everyone who reads this, I have friends in all shapes, sizes and colors, who follow every creed and political party in existence. While I adamantly disagree with some of their beliefs, I still love them, hold them dear, and would defend to the death their right to their beliefs.

The timing of this report is no accident. It was entirely intentional, intended as a preemptive strike against tomorrow's tea parties. Sadly, it will have an impact. The mainstream media will now be able to report on our protests, because they've been given their script - we will be depicted as a bunch of screaming lunatics, violent outcasts of society, dangerous to ourselves and our neighbors. As I've said before, with these people, nothing is accidental.

Our strongest defense in this mess is to be our brothers' keepers. Caution your friends at the tea parties...it will be impossible for anyone to paint us as a bunch of crackpots if we are obviously respectful, sincere, moral and principled. Make your point, but make it as ladies and gentlemen...don't give them any free ammunition to use against us. Happy tea partying!
